Teeth whitening strips are now a commonality in many homes and the ease and accessibility to which they offer, makes them easily achievable and appealing to the masses. If you do not want to spend a lot of money going to a dentist’s office in order to get your teeth whitened, then there are other ways available to you in order to achieve this very same goal with similar end results.

Before you try out any at home teeth whitening, then you should learn about the product you are about to use in order to determine its usefulness and effectiveness in properly and safely whitening your teeth. Many people have been using teeth whitening strips since they first came out to the market.

All you really need to do when using at home teeth whitening strips is to place them gently across your teeth and make sure to press down in order to avoid any wrinkles to the strip. At home teeth whitening strips are a great choice for their convenience and effectiveness, they also ensure that there is direct contact between your teeth and the whitening ingredient in order to guarantee you maximum results and in order to also treat each tooth properly.

The whitening strip you will use to whiten your teeth at home is what will deliver the whitener and bleaching agent to your teeth. The two whitening strips come in two different shapes and one strip is meant for your lower teeth, while the second strip is designed for your upper teeth. You will be required to place the teeth whitening strip on your teeth for 30 minutes regularly for the duration of the recommended time and these strips will need to be placed on your teeth at least twice a day. The higher the concentration on the whitening strips, the more likely you will be required to use the strips for a shorter amount of time.

Teeth whitening strips are a great choice for your at home teeth whitening process. They will not restrict you from doing the things you like and are quite effective in their ability to remove unsightly teeth stains, teeth whitening strips are also quite convenient in that you can throw them in your luggage when it comes time to travel!

Bad breath is most objectionable. It is also known as halitosis. Most people who suffer from this problem are not aware of their problem. The common cause of this problem is bad teeth. Dental decay at the roots of the teeth may result in abscesses in the gums with foul smelling pus giving bad odor to the breath.

Even small holes in the teeth may provide a place where germs can multiply and give foul odors. These are very common in younger people. Badly fitting dentures that are not cleaned properly also leads to bad breathe. It is common in old people. Bad breath does not arise from the stomach. Actually, anaerobic bacteria in mouth produce smelly sulfur compounds that cause bad breath.

Other causes for the bad breathe may be infection of the tonsils, adenoids or sinuses. Bad breath may also arise from the inflammation in the stomach and also from the food materials that have not been completely digested. Tobacco, alcohol, alcohol containing mouth rinses, dry mouth, foods like garlic, onion, and spicy foods, hunger, morning breath, poor oral hygiene can also cause bad breath.

Diet tips for bad breath

Chewing gum can increase salivary flow, but only masks bad breath. Try drinking water throughout the day instead.

Before brushing use hydrogen peroxide to rinse the mouth.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Excessive use of alcohol based mouthwash.

Chew on some cardamom seeds.

Anything that allows you to harbor more bacteria on your tongue, like tongue jewelry, increases your chance of bad breath.

Steps to Avoid Bad Breath

Bad breath is caused by a number of reasons ranging from the garlic and onions in the food you’ve ingested the previous night, gases from gastro-intestinal and dental problems and dehydration to more serious diseases such as tuberculosis, cancer, syphilis and zinc deficiency. People suffering from a sore throat and tonsillitis also suffer from bad breath. An easy way to avoid bad breath is to avoid drinking water during the meals.

This interferes with the gastric juices and can be responsible for causing bad breath. It is also important to practice a strict dental routine, visiting your dentist regularly to get your oral cavity cleaned and also to ensure that you have no cavity problems. In addition to this you should brush and floss your teeth twice a day to keep your mouth clean and free of any infection. It is also important to clean your tongue properly using a tongue-cleaner or your toothbrush since the tongue can harbor a lot of plaque and can cause bad breath. You should also use a mouthwash with a fresh minty flavor to kill the bad breath. Green mouthwashes usually have thyme, peppermint or wintergreen, while red, spicy mouthwashes have zinc compounds which are also beneficial for controlling bad breath.

Apart from these simple steps to avoid bad breath, you can simmer some quince seeds in water, strain the water and gargle using this water every night. This is very effective in controlling bad breath. Figs are also beneficial for bad breath and thus you should have 1 tsp of fig juice every night before sleeping to reduce bad breath in the morning. This has the same effect as the sweet liquorices water available in the Middle East. An easy way to cure bas breath amongst children is to simmer some lemon pips in honey and consume this while it is still warm. In addition to these simple home remedies, parsley is said to be beneficial in controlling bad breath, so you can chew on some fresh sprigs of parsley and use it generously in your food preparations. You should also avoid eating too much garlic since the smell of garlic lingers in the mouth for a long time. Other culprits in food that can cause bad breath and should be avoided are: onions, hot peppers, pastrami, salami, pepperoni, anchovies and even certain cheese like camembert and Roquefort. You should also avoid coffee, beer, wine and whiskey since they cause plaque and drink a lot of water to keep your mouth clean and as bacteria free as possible.

Did you know that discolored and stained teeth can give you a look that makes you look much older than you actually are. Many people’s teeth are discolored for many reasons such as smoking, drinking coffee , punch and other colored drinks such as tea on a regular basis. There are many other people who also have discolored teeth due to being born naturally that way.

There are some people who have teeth discolorations and stains due to improper dental hygiene such as not flossing or brushing properly. You should be aware that such heavily colored drinks such as red wine and coffee as well as soda types of drinks can wreck havoc on your overall teeth appearance.

There are other people that may have stains and discoloration on their teeth because of the side effects from medication that they may be taking or due to an illness.

Options for Your Teeth Whitening
There are three choices for anybody who would like to get their teeth in shape and these are: using whitening toothpaste, using home whitening options, professional teeth whitening. You can get your teeth professionally whitened if you prefer to do so at your local dentist or even through your dentist’s referral.

Whitening Toothpaste
Amongst the most affordable methods you can use is whitening toothpaste. Many people use toothpaste in order to achieve a whiter, brighter smile and whitening toothpaste can help you further in your goals for a brighter smile. You should consult with your dentist as to what kind of toothpaste you should use when whitening your teeth since most of these kinds of toothpastes do use mild abrasives in order to take away the stains.

Home Whitening Treatments
You can use home whitening kits which you can get over the counter and they do seem to be quite a popular method of brightening your teeth, these kinds of treatments usually come in the form of whitening strips coated in bleaching gel and used on your front teeth both at the top and the bottom of your mouth. Some people report having teeth sensitivity ranging in severity, so you may want to be aware of this before you try anything else.

Laser teeth whitening is an effective and safe method to brighten and whiten your teeth. If you would like to remove some unflattering stains from your teeth, you will have to find the most effective and safest method to do so. Remember that hydrogen peroxide is one of the main ingredients that is used in laser teeth whitening and is also found in the bleaching gel used for laser teeth whitening which contains about 15% of the hydrogen peroxide.

Laser Teeth Whitening

If you happen to have extremely sensitive teeth or have recently whitened your teeth with at home whitening trays, then you might need to wait a few months or a year before you try laser teeth whitening. Even at home whitening trays can make your teeth quite sensitive to additional whitening so for this fact alone, many people are advised to consult with their dentist before attempting any whitening procedures whether at home or professionally.

The hydrogen peroxide gel in laser teeth whitening is deemed safe by most dental professionals and is safe for all kinds of teeth and gums as it doesn’t create extreme tooth sensitivity for the majority of people when compared to the other teeth whitening procedures that tend to cause thermal sensitivity.

So how does laser teeth whitening work?

After your dentist applies the hydrogen peroxide to your teeth, they will then use a laser in order to speed up the whitening process. This laser whitening procedure normally takes an average time of 1 and up to 2 hours to complete with no other additional treatments required.

The results you will get from laser teeth whitening are expected to last up from 1 and even up to 2 years depending that you stay away from drinking tea, soda, smoking and drinking coffee on a daily basis. You will also be required to use whitening toothpaste if you are to maintain any long lasting results from your laser teeth whitening.

So what is the advantage of laser teeth whitening ?

The positive thing about laser teeth whitening is that it is more effective than any other teeth whitening procedures, it also lasts longer than other whitening procedures. No follow up treatments will be needed from you with laser teeth whitening.

Teeth whitening is not a new trend; products to whiten your teeth have been on the market for a long time. Recently though it has regained popularity and there is a lot of advertising for teeth whitening products. You are seeing more and more people with blindingly bright smiles.

Most of teeth whitening products you can find over the counter are toothpaste, gels and strips. It is ideal to use whitening products if you have yellow tones to your teeth and you have no restorations or fillings and very healthy gums.

Who Should Not Whiten Teeth

It is not recommend for people under the age of 16 because it could cause tooth sensitivity and it is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women. If you have sensitive teeth and gums you should talk to your dentist before using any product, also if you have an allergy to peroxide then you shouldn’t use any bleaching agent. You should not attempt to whiten your teeth if you have gum disease, worn enamel, cavities and exposed roots. This can increase tooth sensitivity and even cause some pain.

People who have tooth colored fillings should know that they do not whiten. If you use a bleaching agent on these it may result in uneven color. If you really want to lighten your teeth then you need to talk to your dentist and see what their recommendations are.

Try not to have unrealistic expectations. Not everyone will have a nice white smile. People who have yellow tomes to their teeth will have the best results. Keep in mind that if you smoke the results may take longer and then may not last as long unless you refrain from smoking. Also keep in mind that the natural whiteness of person’s teeth is about the same as the whiteness of their eyes. People who have blue gray staining of their teeth should know it will take longer to whiten, maybe up to six months of home treatment and visits to the dentist. People with dark stains may have better luck with veneers, bonding or crowns.

Teeth Whitening Side Affect

There are some side affect in teeth whitening. One of them is temporary tooth sensitivity and some irritation of the gum or soft tissue in the mouth. The sensitivity usually happens in the first couple of days of the bleaching process. The irritation of the tissue and gums could be from an ill fitting mouth piece. However the conditions usually disappear after a few days.

There are some things to consider when choosing an over the counter whitening kit. You should try to select a kit that will allow you to customize the mouth piece to avoid gum irritation. Talk to other people and see if they have tried the product that you are considering and see if it worked well. If you experience a prolonged change in the color of your gums or you experience an increase of tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods, you should immediately stop using the mouthpiece and see the dentist as soon as you can.

There are certain beverages that are known to stain your teeth more than others. One morning favorite that a lot of people drink is coffee. Unfortunately, this is a leading culprit of dimming a white smile. If you cannot start your morning without a cup of brew, be sure to brush your teeth or chew whitening gum after enjoying this beverage. Other caffeinated drinks that are also dark in color can stain your teeth. Tea and cola are also known to stain and turn your teeth yellow. Again, limit the intake, brush after drinking, or drink clear sodas instead.

Red wine and other dark fruit juices do not help in whitening your smile. Instead of drinking red wine, drink white wine such as pinot grigio or chardonnay if you are 21 or older. If you are drinking a dark colored wine, rinse your mouth with water instead of brushing to avoid scratching your enamel. Cranberry juice, blueberry juice, and other dark fruit juices can stain your teeth. Some grocery stores offer white cranberry and grape juices which are better for teeth whitening purposes.

Some of our favorite healthy foods can cause your teeth to stain. If you enjoy eating some of these foods, brush your teeth after eating them and that should prevent dimming. If you have been eating the foods for years and notice your teeth have stains, you can get whitening at your dentist’s office with a dental laser tool. Fruits and vegetables that are known to stain are blueberries and beets. You may have noticed that beets stain your hands if you are cooking with them, and they also stain your teeth. Beets can only help to whiten your teeth if you brush after eating them.

If you enjoy eating cuisine from around the world, keep in mind that curry and tomato sauces can cause your teeth to dim. Indian and Italian food are great, but limit how much you eat or brush your teeth immediately after enjoying a dish. Food that is also cooked with soy sauce or balsamic vinegar can also cause your teeth to yellow. You do not have to stop eating some of your favorite foods, but remember to brush afterwards.

According to a study done in the New York Times about 20% of the nation’s drinking water is contaminated. The study also shows that drinking that contaminated water may lead to serious tooth decay problems as well as other complications. Not only is the drinking water unsafe, many provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act have been violated causing other problems as well. In this act communities are required to provide clean drinking water for all Americans, but reports say that since 2004, 49 million people have been drinking contaminated water. Some have even been exposed to arsenic, uranium and harmful bacteria found in sewage.

Drinking this contaminated water can bring not only illness and sickness to your family and yourself but can cause extreme tooth decay.

A mother interviewed on the Dr. Oz show and talked about extreme water contamination in her area and what it was doing to her and her children’s teeth. She said by the time her son was about ten he had about as many caps on his teeth from extreme tooth decay and cavities.

Not only that, her brother died from a brain tumor from the water, and being a concerned mother, she went around to neighbors and found that 6 other people within a ten mile radius also had tumors of some sort.

So what can you do to keep your teeth, mouth, and body safe from these water contaminants? First of all, it is important to have your water tested. After it is tested and found to be contaminated, the best idea is to buy a water filtration system.

It may seem expensive but the mother that interviewed on the Dr. Oz show said that when her family started filtering their water, and even rinsing their mouth in only clean filtered water, their cavities and tooth decay cleared up significantly.

If you have been having problems with tooth decay or cavities this might be something important for you to look into. Many community water systems have been flagged for contaminated water, whether it be from waste, or illegal dumping, but many of these same water systems have not been fined or shut down.

It is important to get your water checked for contaminants and if they are found to report them to your local government. If your local city government does not agree to clean up the water supply to keep your family safe, you should consider taking the matter to higher authorities.

One good thing about drinking tap water however, is the fact that it may reduce cavities if it is not contaminated. Bottled water on average contains only 0.3 parts per million with the optimal level being 0.7-1.2 parts per million

Because of the smaller concentration of fluoride, bottled water is said to have less cavity fighting properties and may actually be bad for your teeth.

If the alternative however, is drinking from a contaminated water source, bottled water or buying a filtration system is the better alternative. When you fix your contaminated water source, the health of your teeth is almost guaranteed to improve.

Having a white smile after your teeth whitening treatment is a given but what about afterwards and ensuring the teeth remain nice and bright is important to think about.
Brighter looking teeth is now possible for people who only dreamed of until more recently as the prices have come down to a level that is affordable for everyday people.

The removal of years of staining caused by all the things we love like coffee, red wine, curries and soya sauce to name just a few of the things and if you smoke then add nicotine to the list. In fact it is difficult to think of something we consume that does not have properties that have some staining qualities. Other than rice, pasta, chicken and turkey plus water, milk and bananas which are free from colorants but this article is to help you think about maintaining whiter teeth and having a lifestyle that allows you to consume the things we enjoy but do stain the teeth!

Teeth are always going to have porous values and after teeth whitening the teeth will not get any worse but because you have seen the teeth so white then you are going to want to keep them looking white so the teeth do not become any more porous after the treatment or whitening program.
Seeing the teeth so white should keep you motivated to keep the teeth looking as white as possible but the whitening process is an ongoing one and needs occasional use of the peroxide gels on the market to remove the staining.

Use of a home kit or whitening strips or even a periodic use of a laser treatment will ensure the staining is removed and if undertaken regular enough will keep the staining away to reveal the natural colour again without the need of spending a lot of money of whitening.

This ongoing approach does not allow the teeth to re-stain easily as leaving the teeth too long between whitening will allow the staining to build up and particularly the deeper staining which is much harder to remove from the teeth.

Many of the professional systems on the market do not follow or suggest this approach because they are wanting customers to return for another treatment typically at a higher cost but i have followed this method and kept the staining away without having to spend much time or money on whitening the teeth.

There is no evidence to prove that regular teeth whitening damages the enamel in any way and to be hones what we are suggesting in this article is the usage of low strength peroxide whitening products but using them regularly to keep on top of the situation.

Always seek the approval of your dentist and ensure regular visits to the dentist are kept to keep teeth and gums healthy and free form disease.

If you follow these simple principles then the teeth will stay white and really even out the colour of the teeth and make you look like the stars and celebrities.
